How does a Statue of Limitations Law work in regards to sexual abuse cases?

If someone was a minor between the ages of 10-16 when the sexual abuse took place and they are 30 now...and as an adult decide they want to press charges...

How do you do this, when is it too late?

I am in Texas in case this matters...Is there any way I can make this person pay for what they have done in anyway... either by jail time or even financially if that's all I could do to him?How does a Statue of Limitations Law work in regards to sexual abuse cases?

I'm afriad it's probably too late. The SoL starts to run @ 18th b-day, and there's a 5 yr limit for criminal sexual assault. How does a Statue of Limitations Law work in regards to sexual abuse cases?
for criminal charges, there's a five year statute of limitations that begins when the abused turns 18 years old.

Most civil actions in Texas have a statute of limitations of not more than 4 years.

So, it looks like that your chance to make this person pay has long since passed you by.
People do it all the time agains Priests. Call your lawyer.
In Canada there is no statute of limitations for this crime It is in a way a crime against humanity much like war crimes and There is also no statute of limitations against murder
Looks like the statues of limitations in Texas is 10 years after the crime or when the victim turn 28, which ever is later. See http://blog.laborlawtalk.com/2006/10/30/鈥?/a>

Still worth a chat with the DA.
I would suggest contacting a lawyer.
Go to Law.Just Answer.com, you can get free advice there.
I don't think that law stand up in crimes of a sexual nature. Someone who is a lawyer will give you advice...BUT no matter what you decide to do...let him know that you have not forgotten what he did to you and your life! Either in a letter or whatever...and then proceed to let other people know. Tell your family and people who knew him back then...if you can make yourself talk about him to others, you will feel somewhat vindicated. Screw up his life a bit ...how's his wife these days????
