Is a counsellor required by law to take action in sexual abuse cases?

if someone who is 19 is seeking counseling regarding marginal sexual abuse that happened during early childhood are they required to pursue details and take action against the abuser? Is a counsellor required by law to take action in sexual abuse cases?
If it is you and you may harm someone Yes. If there are other minor children in the home that may be at risk for harm yes. Otherwise if you are the one that was abused then you should bring charges against them because they will seek another child and they to will be in a counselors office or worse dead, in jail, prison, mental institution, hospital. IT DID NOT START WITH YOU AND, IT WILL NOT STOP WITH YOU. If you have a good counselor and you go through the proper counseling at sometime you will have to ask why to the person that harmed you, what gave them a right to marginal sexually abuse you ? Why not have them charged with the crime and punished before someone else gets hurt? Then you Will be able to ask why? You will be in a court room and they can not touch you againIs a counsellor required by law to take action in sexual abuse cases?
when talking to counselor everything discussed is confidential at the age of 19 you are an adult so only you can make the decision weather or not you wish to use the law as an aid to help you from experience average counseling is a waist of time but everyone is different and for some it may help. i feel the best way forward is to find one that has had some real experience and been through smiler things anyone can read a book and think they can relate to how Somone feels if your ready to talk about it you are half way there! happy to give advice
If the abuse occurred when the person was a minor (i.e., below the age of 18) then it would depend upon the statute of limitations in the specific State. Best to ask one of those Lawyer type people.
I do believe so..if it interfers with the law..or the persons saftey they are required to take action....personal experience
Hmm...I don't *think* they're required to take action unless there's a present danger of abuse recurring. I'm not 100% positive, though.
not if they are 19. Only if they are a threat to themselves or others do they have to take action.
Not in this country.

Are you in this country? Who knows?
