Is it true that The federal courts only have jurisdiction to hear cases involving federal law. ?
Federal courts can hear a state case if it is ancillary to the federal case. There is also diversity jurisdiction by which the court can hear a state case if all the parties live in different states. They can also hear cases in which one state sues a different state.
